Keeping the Faith
Dr. Robert Strang is Chief Health Officer in the province of Nova Scotia and has lead the province through two pandemics. Men of Grace invited Dr. Strang to speak during a Saturday Pancake Breakfast and share how his faith has helped him through one of the most demanding crises of our time.
Connect and Serve
Dr. Strang's counsel was surprisingly familiar. He told us to engage in service with others, to help those struggling with coping. Whether that be offering a ride to a clinic, or delivering goods to a home in isolation, it shows the love of God in action. Connect and serve. We grow through the experience and our actions honour God in our community.
Remembering Who Is In Control
We also need to be careful about what type of information we are listening to. There are many people with different agendas who are prone to embellish the facts to achieve their purpose. As Christians, we deal in the truth of who is really in control. This has less to do with finding blame or accusing others and more to do with restoration. Less about division and more about finding common ground where we can respect another's opinion or choice.
Trusting Our Sovereign God
Dr. Strang shared that faith and science should be considered complementary, not in opposition. After all, God put in place the rules and practices that the medical profession needs to ensure public safety and health.
Trusting in a sovereign God who is in control of all the nations and is working all things for good should help us through crises of all types. Our God is faithful to His promise and loving in His mercy. Let us share His kingdom peace and hope with others.
